Parents Accompanying School Trips
Please find attached to this newsletter a letter regarding the new school policy on parents’ accompanying school trips. In summary we now require all parents accompanying a school visit to have either;
A current CRB check
or
Clearance from the ISA (a check against the children’s barred list)
This change has been implemented in line with current DCSF guidance regarding the safeguarding of children and it is important that we comply with it. This has implications for the organisation of school trips, especially those which are organised at short notice or when we ask for parents to walk with us to events in the local area. We will now need to confirm which parents will be able to accompany any school trip at least 5 working days before the trip takes place.
The two events that these new regulations will affect most are:
The KS2 visit to the pantomime in Leatherhead on Monday 14th December
Carol Concert at St. Michael’s church in Ashtead on Tuesday 15th December.
Can any parents that are able to walk with Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 to these events please contact their class teacher by Monday 7th December.
We really appreciate the support of our parents in accompanying school trips; we would not be able to offer the range of experiences that we do without your help and I hope that we can count on your continued support.
Nativity Play
This year our Nativity ‘The Christmas Story’ will be performed at 2pm on:
Wednesday 9th December for parents and toddlers
Thursday 10th December for parents
Friday 11th December for elderly residents from our community
The Nativity play forms part of our school’s Christmas celebrations and as such parents from all year groups are welcome to join us. There will be a collection after the performances for Mission Together.
So that we have an idea of how many people will be attending each performance please email the school office marking the subject KS1 Nativity and letting us know how many seats you require for each day.
Carol Service
Our Carol Service is at St. Michael’s Church, Ashtead on Tuesday 15th December at 10.30am. Years 3, 4, 5, & 6 will be walking to St Michael’s Church and need parent volunteers to walk with them. (Please see above section for information on the new policy for parent helpers). We will be leaving school at 9.45am and returning at approx 12noon. If you are able to help please contact your class teacher by Monday 7th December.
Years R, 1 and 2 will be travelling to the church by coach. We require parents to give their permission for this. We also ask for a donation of £2 per child towards the cost of the coach. Please can you detach and return the slip below to the school office by Friday 11th December.

Family Masses at St Michael’s, Ashtead
The dates for the forthcoming family Masses at St Michael’s are Sunday 6th December and Sunday 10th January. If you are planning to attend the 10.30am Mass on those dates and your children would like to get involved, please contact Antonietta Caprano-Wint (tel. 270300 or email: antonietta_caprano_wint@hotmail.com ). It may not be possible to allocate all of the children specific roles this time but there will be more opportunities for the children to be involved over the coming months. We shall be organising practices at school for children who wish to lead the singing.
Christmas Celebrations at Our Lady & St Pater’s, Leatherhead
There will be a Christmas Carol Service on Friday, 11th December at 7.30 pm followed by mulled wine and mince pies in the Hall. The Toy Mass will be on Sunday 13th December at 10.00am. Please bring a present for a boy or girl (up to age 16) in the care of Cabrini Children’s Society. The present should be wrapped, and marked whether it was suitable for a boy or a girl, and their age range, and brought to Mass or left at the Presbytery beforehand.
